Created pilot proposal for NYC’s first government-run Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP) at the department's Neighborhood Health Action Center (HAC) in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Proposal departed from the traditional MLP approach of staffing clinics with a rotating attorney 1-2 days per week to address implicit barriers to trust, accessibility, and continuity of services. Instead, a “Legal Navigator” – a paralegal or social worker supervised by a legal services organization with attorneys to accept referrals as needed – would be embedded full-time at the HAC.
